The first volume of a detailed and well-researched history of the important but neglected operation that was to be the beginning of the liberation of western Ukraine On 24 December 1943, the Red Army launched the first of a series of winter offensives against the German Army Group South under von Manstein, the overall object of which was to liberate western Ukraine from occupation. This first offensive is known to Soviet historians as the Zhitomir-Berdichev operation. Based on the unpublished records of the German 1st and 4th Panzer Armies, and supplemented by comprehensive mapping and order of battle data, this book provides an authoritative, detailed, day-by-day account of German operations as they developed in response to the Soviet offensive. It also gives a vivid insight into the planning and decision-making of the German Army field commands in conducting not only a mobile defence, but also a series of counterattacks which, in the final analysis, could do little more than provide a temporary respite in the face of the growing strength and skill of the Red Army. Eventually being published in two separate volumes, this first volume describes events until 9 January 1944, during which period the German forces were pushed back forcibly under the weight of the Soviet offensive, and includes 140 detailed daily situation maps in colour to allow the reader to follow operations as they developed day by day, presented in a separate mapbook to aid the reader's use of the study. Volume two will cover the period from 10 to 31 January 1944 and will describe the series of counterattacks undertaken by the Germans as they tried desperately to stabilise a situation that had already slipped beyond their control. Together this two volume set comprises a groundbreaking survey which is likely to set a new standard for future studies of operational combat on the Eastern Front.

Dropzone Commander Rules
The year is 2673.
160 years ago humanity was evicted from their home, invaded by the terrifying Scourge. A parasitic race determined to capture or kill every living being, they overwhelmed mankind’s defences.
Humanity escaped to the Colonies, abandoning Earth and the Cradle Worlds to their attackers. Now the United Colonies of Mankind have come back, fighting a bitter war known as the Reconquest.
They are beset on all sides not just from the Scourge, but the ancient alien Shaltari, the abandonists of the Post-Human Republic, and even on occupied worlds by the Resistance.
Now a brief window of opportunity has opened, allowing the UCM to return to Earth and finally take it back from the Scourge. It will be a hard-fought battle, although aid may yet come from unlikely sources. Humanity might have a chance at returning to their home, although they don’t expect a friendly arrival.
Battle for Earth is the first cross-game expansion for Dropfleet Commander and Dropzone Commander. It takes the ongoing narrative and puts it into overdrive as the Reconquest faces its bloodiest conflicts yet, both in space and on the ground.
Written by David J Lewis and Lewis Clarke, this book contains a huge amount of material! With a massive new chapter in the story, be prepared to learn about brand new parts of the universe, including the biggest battles ever fought.
Dropfleet Commander fans will find rules for all sorts of new ships, including the massive Dreadnoughts and much-anticipated Monitors, as well as full rules for Resistance fleets - the newest players in this intergalactic game.
Dropzone Commander players will find a full new version of the rules. This set of rules has been developed over several years, and is the one that the fans have been waiting for. Some rules have been tweaked, but there are many brand new surprises. The book also includes rules for using Behemoths in your games - colossal war engines that can turn the tide of an entire battle!

REVISED 1.1 EDITION INFO:
We've sold our entire first print run of Dropzone Commander and have just taken delivery of our new, revised 1.1 edition! First off - it's important to note that this does NOT make the original rulebook redundant! Most of the changes featured have already been released online some time ago and further rules revisions are available to download now. That being said, we have taken this opportunity to act on feedback from our fans and reviewers to make a few more minor adjustments to the book and the rules, which are as follows:
A) All current Errata, rules changes and most of the Clarifications have been incorporated into the revised edition.
B) We've made some changes to points costs etc. These are available to download, but in general terms, gunships and special forces are now cheaper in points, and some smaller weapons, upgrade costs and scenarios have been slightly modified.
C) Version 1.1 now features a double page index, a new page detailing how to build a Battlegroup and a brand new, first person mini-story!
D) Text is now further from the spine away from the centre of the book to increase readability, and the blue 'Rules' margin colour has now been split into three distinct shades for Background, Rules and Scenarios.
E) Paper quality is improved, with a totally uniform laminate texture throughout.
F) Rules for our recent releases (e.g. the Ferrum, Hades, Firedrake, Annihilator etc) are NOT featured in the revised edition. They will be printed in a future expansion of Dropzone Commander.
Version 1.1 is available immediately, and any outstanding orders for rulebooks will automatically be shifted to this revised version. The retail price and product code remains exactly the same.
